Malili E-City: The Metropolis to Pull Kenya into Industrialized Nation Status
Business processing outsourcing (BPO) is expected to be the occupation of more than 37,000 Kenyans by the year 2012, a big jump from the current 3,000 people. And the industry will be generating Shs 100 billion.
Preliminary work on the Malili E-City is expected to start next April. The government has already spent Shs 400 million to acquire a 5,000 acre piece of land for the Malili E-City which in total will cost Shs 1 billion.
The ultra-modern city will house entrepreneurs in business outsourcing.
In addition to secure electrify, the city, to be located on a scenic, wildlife-filled plains some 6o kilometers east of Nairobi, will be supplied with high speed, high capacity internet connection, high speed transport, water and other basic infrastructures.
Entrepreneurs located in the city will be only 60 kilometers away from Africa’s tallest, snow-clad Mt. Kilimanjaro which in the mornings looms large on the horizon south west of the site of the proposed city.
